The Best Sustainable Christmas Presents for Children

The Best Sustainable Christmas Presents for Children

As the Christmas season approaches the urge to find the perfect gift that your children will love takes center stage. At a time when environmental awareness is growing, and a desire to invest in quality products gift-givers are looking for sustainable options that can be loved and cherished beyond the Christmas period.

In this guide, we'll explore a curated selection of the best sustainable Christmas presents for children, which encourage responsibility, and creativity, and with some care can become a much-loved toy for generations to come.

From eco-friendly toys to educational experiences, this list is designed to help make your Christmas shopping both delightful and sustainable.

Wooden Animal Figurines

Young children love small-world play, which helps to spark their imagination and can help them to learn to solve problems. Animal figurines are brilliant for small-world play and there are a variety of beautiful wooden toys that are sustainable. Ostheimer, and Holztiger, are both great brands that use responsibly sourced wood and eco-friendly wood stains. There are many places where you can buy these new online or look for second-hand selling groups on Facebook.

Bath toys

Make bath times fun and eco-friendly with fun and exciting bath toys from Green Toys. This California-based toy brand uses recycled plastics and eco-friendly packaging in all its toys to help keep waste out of the ocean. There is a brilliant selection of toys available, with brightly coloured submarines to make bath-time fun. Look out for stock in John Lewis, Amazon, and even TKMaxx.

Book Subscriptions

Books are always a great choice when you are looking for a plastic-free gift option. So make giving books a little more special with a book subscription. Small Print Books, based in London, sources the most beautiful children's books and offers book subscriptions for children up to seven years old. Choose the book subscription by age range, and duration, and your little bookworms will receive a new book every month. Not only will you be engaging little minds but you will also be supporting a small business.

Help Save the Bees

Support your local bee colony by gifting a Pollination kit. Kids who love nature will enjoy planting seeds and watching them grow into flowers or plants that attract bees. Kits usually have everything you need including seeds, soil, and eco-friendly plant pots. Check out your local wildlife trust or local garden centre for kits that include pollinating flowers.

Reusable lunch ware

Good quality reusable lunch ware items such as lunch boxes and reusable drinking bottles make great eco-friendly gifts for kids and help save waste when you are out and about. A BPA-free or stainless steel water bottle and eco-friendly lunch boxes will be great for day trips and will come in handy at school. Kleen Kanteen has some brilliant lunch ware that is plastic-free with fun graphics for kids.

Eco-friendly Baby Gifts

It can be difficult to find eco-friendly baby gifts, especially for very young babies who are not playing with toys yet. However, there are some great sustainable baby gifts available for babies of all ages. Kidly has a great range of eco-friendly baby toys and clothes made from sustainable materials or recycled fabrics. Babies that are weaning will also enjoy an eco-friendly bamboo plate set or a silicone table mat to encourage fun at mealtimes. Teething toys also make great sustainable gifts for babies, as you can buy eco-friendly wood teethers or sustainable silicone to make teething more fun for little ones.

With so many wonderful eco-friendly gifts for children available, we hope the above options have given you some ideas for a more sustainable Christmas.

Why Borro clothes?

Renting means less waste, more wardrobe flexibility and no more piles of outgrown clothes. It’s a smarter, more sustainable way to dress your little ones.

With Borro, you get high-quality kidswear without the commitment, just what you need, when you need it. Helping you save time, save money, and save the planet.

What about stains?

Don't panic! Let us worry about the stains. Stain insurance is included. Obviously it's best to prevent stains if you can, or treat them as soon as possible. But we will never charge you.

If the garment can't be saved, it will be upcycled or recycled. Nothing ever goes to landfill, and we'll never charge you.

Subscription & exchanges

Subscription

All the clothes are individually priced and there's no minimum amount or set subscription - we're flexible!

Rent as many/few things as you like and you'll see at checkout what your monthly subscription will be. (If you want us to pick out a coordinated bundle of 10 items for you, it's £29/month).

Exchanges

We know little ones grow as fast as the weather changes! You don't need to return your previous order to order new clothes, so simply send back items whenever you no longer have a need for them, and add any new items to your subscription, by adding them to your basket and checking out.

Delivery & returns

Delivery

Your order will be packed and dispatched the next working day. Delivery takes 2-3 working days.

Returns

Pop them inside the bag/box they came in, attach the free pre-paid returns label, then drop off at your nearest Evri ParcelShop.

We only include one pre-paid returns label per order, so if you choose to send just some of an order back and the rest later, you will need to pay for the postage of the second return.

Once we've received your items we will amend your subscription so you only pay for what you've got.

We recommend returning items 4-5 days before your subscription renews in order to allow enough time for delivery and processing to avoid your next monthly payment going out. If you're a few days late, you can always cancel online (use the link in the order confirmation email). As long as we receive the clothes within the next few days, that's fine.

Sustainability

At Borro we maximise the use of each item of clothing by providing a service that ensures it's well maintained, repaired and enjoyed by as many families as possible.

So if a garment is used by 6 different users, the global warming potential is 49% less, with a CO2e (kg) per user of 1.18, instead of 2.29.
